So today we take a go from Tanzania to London.
I first heard of Chichia in 2013 (Beyonce graced the stage in a piece from her collection)
Then rediscovered through this really cool project, Project Tribe some time this April/ May. Then it got complicated between pocket & I, Right about the time the SS15 Hadithi Hadithi debuted. But then the fashion gods have been kind thus far so let get into it, shall we?
Chichia’s signature transpires from the artful application of the “Khanga”, a traditional east African cotton printed fabric used by local women as wrap
Hadithi is inspired by the Tinga Tinga stories ( Hi anime fans)
This is by far one of their more refined collections ( I’m talking photo opps et al.) there’s a certain finesse, that Hadithi delivers. Very luxe.
Me thinks SS14 Reminiscence was the most interesting collection yet.
Might be because she had two mini collections – the ready to wear Reminiscence collection which is made in Tanzania and the made to order Chichia Luxe concept, made in Britain…cc. Style Vitae
But when think about how Mhando has been carving her niche since the early 2000’s, what do you expect?
Gauni AW13 The Dress Project (another fave)
You know that thing about going fast versus going far, has figured it out with acclaimed collaborations like these, It’s no doubt her brand is one to watch.
Did I mention her AW15 – H | I | B | I | S | C | U | S is ready
